Making the journey to The Coal Shed was a tough one on an empty stomach but the Black Angus Steak Burger was enough fuel to get us back and then some!

With the full burger review team reassembled after James’ holiday, we took a long walk to The Coal Shed Brighton after finding the one burger on their menu: The Black Angus Steak Burger. After being seated and ordering our drinks we prepared ourselves for the long awaited delivery.

A prime steak patty served with Coal Shed Bourbon relish, lettuce, pickles, tomato, onion & beef dripping chips. We can’t resist a burger with a bourbon sauce. On it’s own the burger costs £12.50 but we collectively decided to add some optional extras. Those being cheese and bacon for an extra £2 bringing the total for our burgers up to £14.50.

The burger was presented nicely on a custom wood cutting board with some mayonnaise and the thickest chips we have come across. Unlike the other places we have visited The Coal Shed is primarily a steakhouse and it was hard to not go for a medium rare rib eye.

As mentioned before The Black Angus Steak Burger is the only burger on the menu so we were eager to find out if they make burgers as well as they cook steak.

We gave the burger a score out of 10 in 5 categories which are: Juiciness, Bun, Flavour, Stability and Value for Money. The bun was tasty and different and the beef patty was rare enough at least in mine. As for a few things we think could be improved, in Ashleys case the patty was a bit overdone, we would like to see the chips slim down a little, and the onions/pickles/tomato struggled to stay where they belong.

The Black Angus Steak Burger was great but we felt that without the cheese and bacon that does not come by default the burger would have been a bit bland. A lot of meat but not enough of the other components to compensate. We hope that this post can tantalize your taste buds and if you give the burger a try please comment to let us know what you thought about it.
