We try an award winning burger this week when we visit Stock Burger Co. along Brighton seafront. Do we think the burger is worthy of it’s status?
Only Ashley and I were in the office so it was a prime opportunity to try a new burger. It was time to go back to Stock Burger Co. (after it had been closed last time) where we would find the National Burger 2016 Award winning El Toro burger. Once we realised that the burger was being promoted this week there was no other choice.
The menu is one of the most extensive that we have seen so far as you have the option to build your own burger allowing for countless combinations. Check out the full menu here: www.stockburgerco.com.
As for the El Toro, Stock Burger’s signature beef patty plus pulled Glenarm oxtail, melted Swiss cheese & double ox jus sounded like something both of us have never had before.
On it’s own the El Toro costs £11.50 and does not come with a side of chips without you spending another £2. That along with the recommended beer and service is over £20 per person!
We know what you’re thinking, this has to be one hell of a burger! Well we can say that when the bill came at the end we felt like it was worth the money for what you get. The burger felt dense and heavy with the large patty combined with the helping of ox tale. The beer was nice and the service was great.
The place was more like a restaurant. Nice but not too wacky as it is attached to a hotel and is more tamed with polished wooden tables and seating, a circular bar and felt covered booths next to large windows looking out onto the coast road and West Pier. Nice but nothing quite like a proper pub or bar.
We gave the burger a score out of 10 in 5 categories which are: Juiciness, Bun, Flavour, Stability and Value for Money. The glazed bun was delicious, there was not too much grease or juice and it held together pretty well. As for a few things we think could be improved, not much flavour other than beef came though so it would have been nice to get more sauce, and there was so much meat that not many other ingredients were noticeable so maybe change to a slightly smaller patty.
The El Toro was really great but it had one or two minor flaws. It’s certainly worth your time and money if you have a big stomach but we personally would not have voted it a national burger award winner. It actually makes us want to try some other burgers on the menu and see how they use their strengths in other combinations. We hope that this post can tantalize your taste buds and if you give the burger a try please comment to let us know what you thought about it.

Smokey Robinson
Patty & Bun

Patty&Bun on Ship St Brighton. We go to see if Brighton’s newest burger venue can compete with the other main players. Does the Smokey Robinson burger land in our top 10? This was our first trip to Patty&Bun and we hadn’t seen or read any reviews so we had no idea what to expect.
Wagyu Smokestack
Brighton Burger
16.2.2018
We pay Brighton Burger a visit to see what gourmet gold they have to offer. After looking through the menu there was no doubt in our minds that the Smokestack was the best choice for us. Wagyu beef topped with smoked pork, smoked cheddar & onion rings, sat on raspberry jam, onions and chilli peanut spread.
