Once again we end up in East Street Tap after The Bok Shop was closed and we were eager to try another burger after the award worthy Death Jam. After much consideration we landed on the tasty sounding Gecko burger. We find out if Burger Kult will be consistently high scoring. Spoiler Alert…it will.

Twice now the East Street Tap was not our intended destination. But upon arriving at the newly opened The Bok Shop – only to find it closed, we couldn’t resist a return trip to Burger Kult across the street. Which proves how important it is to make sure your Google My Business details are up to date – especially opening hours, so you don’t miss out on potential business! Read our recent post about this here.

We were joined this time by our third burger loving team member James, who was on holiday when we reviewed the Death Jam, so he was eager to join the Kult and was just as impressed as we were when we reviewed it here.

History repeated itself as we scanned the menu looking for what to try next. The Gecko: “A ground chuck steak burger with chopped chorizo, griddles chillies, piquillo peppers & Monterey Jack cheese – topped with The Kult’s own chipotle & orange BBQ sauce, shredded butter leaf, plum tomatoes, red onion & Sriracha mayo.” The thought of chipotle & orange BBQ sauce would influence our decision in the end. Check out the full menu here: www.burgerkult.co.uk

On it’s own the Gecko costs £11 but if you want to double up you can for £15. You can also spend a few extra pounds for some maple bacon, extra cheese and more sauces. The pub itself: like a lot of the bars we visit, was rustic and industrial with with some cool decorations like neon lights, a pin-ball machine and even a fish tank. It’s kinda hard to explain so like always we have included some photos of the inside.

We gave the burger a score out of 10 in 5 categories which are: Juiciness, Bun, Flavour, Stability and Value for Money. This burger was fantastic but as for a few things we think could be improved, the large amount of sauce made the burger extremely messy which we don’t usually mind but an extra napkin on the plate would have been a godsend as we only had one or two on the table.

Like the Death Jam, the Gecko had a succulent patty and great bun and those aspects seem to be consistent. We thoroughly enjoyed the Gecko and we will be back whenever we can until we have tried every burger they have! We hope that this post can tantalize your taste buds and if you give the burger a try please comment to let us know what you thought about it.
