For the more ‘arty’ people out there, the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems (Pantone) has decided on the Colour of the Year 2014.

And the winner is Marsala

Colour in design is very subjective. What evokes one reaction in one person may evoke a very different reaction in someone else.  For what it is worth, this is what Marsala means to us:

  • The darker shades of red can be powerful and elegant
  • There is a hint of blood in the colour and so it can denote feelings such as passion or alarm
  • Dark red, when combined with white and gray, gives a very elegant and professional impression
  • Use shades of red to grab attention and to get people to take action.

For companies, the key is to consider how the colour you choose for your company will be perceived by your target market rather than the colour your business stakeholders like.
