This week we were invited by the awesome and talented team at The Mash Tun to come and review a SideKick Kitchen burger of our choice! We were super psyched to try the Silent Bob, and we had been given a golden opportunity. So where does the monster that is the Silent Bob appear on our leaderboard?
We set out for The Mash Tun yesterday evening with high hopes for a great burger. This was the first time we had been invited to come and write a review, and we are glad that it turned out great. We arrived and ordered drinks first. We already new what we were going to order and had received some educated recommendations for sides.
Once we had ordered we sat in anticipation for the mountain sized Silent Bobs to arrive. “Two grilled beef patties topped with double monteray jack, double bacon, two onion rings and chipotle and lime sauce.” When they arrived we were presented with what can only be described as a tower of a burger and surprised to find no skewer or structural assistance of any kind! You can get the Silent Bob and fries for £14.50 and if you’re insane and like a challenge you can order a triple for £17. We also ordered some dipping gravy which was really nice once the burger was small enough to fit inside the bowl, and some Chicken Wings which were also very succulent and tasty, which were covered in a lip-licking Guinness and Honey sauce.
The bar itself was very atmospheric and busier than we are used to, lit mostly by decorative strips and candles. A small bar with tables and chairs on the ground floor where we sat, padded benches and tables on the first floor and a large outside seating area under parasols. It’s always nice to be in a proper bar for a review.
We gave the burger a score out of 10 in 5 categories which are: Juiciness, Bun, Flavour, Stability and Value for Money. The Silent Bob was daunting at first but surprisingly stable and approachable for the most part, It tasted amazing and might be the very definition of a gourmet burger. The patties were served pink, which we always appreciate, the cheese was warm and gooey and the fried onions added a nice crunch to each bite.
As for a few things we think could be improved, the bottom bun fell apart very quickly which makes the burger hard to hold and messy to say the least. But being the beast it was, we weren’t expecting it to stay together once we got stuck in. As too were the staff, who were sure to offer us cutlery.
A special thanks goes out to Gary, the chefs at Sidekick Kitchen and the staff at the Mash tun for having us and for their excellent burgers and service. They know their stuff! We will certainly be back for a few pints and to try some other burgers on their menu and see if they are just as good as the Silent Bob.
